A Challenge

I have been moved in my spirit lately concerning our denial of the very existence of a creator God. To so many in our western world this would scarcely rate as a problem, causing little more than a shrug of the shoulders and a few words of total dismissal to escape their lips. Yet when individually we are faced with a crisis in our lives we so often cry out why did God allow this to happen. I wonder why that is? We have so little regard for God when everything is going well, yet when a devastating reverse of that situation occurs what then? Desperate to find help in our lives we cry out to a god we do not know. We find ourselves so often in total isolation because we are hardly prepared to admit to the notion that there could be or indeed there is anyone out there greater than us. So Is there anyone greater than the crisis who could possibly know how to help us and give us strength to face the crisis which threatens to engulf us?

This scenario is played out millions of times over amongst the peoples of this world. The lack of knowledge of God amongst the people of the nations is staggering. Could this be why so many millions reach for pills or take too much alcohol. Each year so many reach the conclusion that their lives are worthless and there is no reason to live any more. They become one more sad case of a body found slumped on a bed or smashed at the bottom of a tall building. Yes there is someone out there who is greater than any crisis you may face.

I have lived long enough to know that life lived without close friends around us is bad enough, but when we close the door on our little self contained box we call home what then. When our inner thoughts and feelings kick in who do we turn to then. What do we do when these thoughts and feelings become overwhelming. The bottles of pills we store in our cupboards cannot help us in the long run. We need some one outside of ourselves who is greater, more powerful, more caring and loving of us than even the closest of our friends.

The number of suicides each year in our so called advanced and prosperous western nations is shocking. Each year it would appear there is is a continued upward trend in the figures. Young and older people taking the devastating decision to end their lives. With a dip in the number of people taking their own lives in the middle years being little comfort for those who care for them. To live in harmony with those around us is sweet. To live with the full knowledge we are loved and cared about is wonderful. To know we are loved because of who we are is even more fantastic. To know these are the traits of a God who has been shouting his existence through his creation since the very beginning of time and revealed himself through the bible, should change our whole perspective as to who we are.

Now to answer the questions above. When I was a youngster of thirteen I asked questions “who am I” and “why am I here” I believe God was starting to prod me. Yes it was a God moment, I was laying in the grass looking up into the night sky. The incredible number of stars visible in those days was magnificent. Not long after that time I heard that Jesus Christ came into this world to show us first hand what God was like. Jesus died on the cross of Calvary for us, to take away our sin. He is able to make us clean on the inside. All we have to do is bury our pride and ask Him into our lives to help. He will direct our lives and help us make good decisions, if we listen to him, and live according to his plan for us. This is simplistic I know but it is not possible in so few words to convey all that needs to be said. Open your hearts to Jesus as I did in 1961, and he will reveal his father to you. It will take time to realise all God has for you, but in an instant you can know the love and peace of God in your heart. Then begins the journey of discovery that God has a life he wants you to live which will eclipse anything you could imagine for yourself.

I was sixteen when I became a Christian by asking Jesus into my life to forgive my sin and make me ready to go to heaven. Now some fifty three years later I am still on that journey of discovery and increasingly excited about what God has done in me and indeed through me. It has been challenging sometimes, but to know that your life is in God’s hands is wonderful beyond words. Also knowing that God has a prepared eternity stretching out before me is so reassuring. I need have no fear for the future because he holds the future.
One last thing I want to say is this; True Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship with the living God. As such Christianity transcends all other religions of the world. It is unique as indeed you are a unique created being.
